Ryan rock and rolls with this sci-fi adventure as everything takes place in the year 3050! The big threat to civilization is Death and his cyborg minions! Death has created a new breed of monstrosities called Brontos. Ryan draws his characters with enthusiasm. You can see that with the very unique outfits his characters wear. Everything comes to a climax when the hero Tech Storm starts wailing on Death. This is a battle to the bitter end. Tech Storm cries out "bring it on!" Things get somewhat tense, as the reader will witness a loss of an arm during battle and an explosion from a "tech-bomb"! When Tech Storm and Death come face-to-face it's not a pretty picture!

I've always had a high regard for Wroxton Saskachewan Canada native Ryan Crouse, both as a person and as a creator. On a personal level Ryan's one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. As publisher and the creative force behind Star Verse Comics Ryan's enthusiasm for the comics medium shines through in both his work and conversations. While Ryan's comics more accurately fit the classification of fanzines all his titles show both a high energy and raw creative power that is so rare to find these days. On top of that Ryan's comics sell and sell well for a fanzine format comic. The comics that is the subject of this review for example sold 30 copies even before Ryan was able to put it up on his website.
TECH STORM: RAGES OF WAR #1 (OF 2) is set in the year 3050 and consists of page after page of intense action. While the story is a bit thin and the dialogue fairly conventional and a tad cliched Ryan makes up for this in the raw power of his art and sequential visual movement. Ryan's pencils could do with a bit of work as well but his inks, while heavy in the use of blacks, are at a near professional level. I'd love to see him ink some quality professional pencils some day as I think the work would inspire him to do some great stuff.
But despite the above mentioned drawbacks this comic is a fun read. Ryan's got a lot of potential and definitely deserves some attention. The story is twenty pages in length with the remainder of this issue filled out with reviews of other publishers' comics, a letters page, an article about Ryan reprinted from a weekly newspaper called The Western Producer and ads. All in all a fine package.
Would I recommend it? I'd have to say a qualified yes. If you enjoy seeing the work of up and coming talent definitely give this and other Star Verse titles a try. Ryan's going places and is someone to watch.
